Sustainability Report Analysis: Chanel

Pioneering Women Series: our series amplifying the work of women that work in sustainable luxury, this week we take a look at the CHANEL Sustainability Report.

╰┈➤ Great inspiration from this week's report, the CEO of the company is a woman leading Chanel with emphasis on compassion. Chanel is a privately held company and are not currently obligated to report on ESG efforts but are ahead of the game in transparency in this respect. Their reporting period ends at the end of December, so while we wait for that, let's see how 2023 went.

╰┈➤ The CEO is Leena Nair, who has been leading Chanel since January 2022.
- "Chanel continue to be committed to contributing positively to the environment and the communities in which they operate".
Glassdoor Rating: Leena Nair- 84% approve of CEO.

 Progress report included:
- 100% sugar beet alcohol has been sourced from organic certified and regenerative agricultural producers.
- 87% recycled gold sourcing for watches and fine jewellery.
- Established the Traceability Alliance for Sustainable Cosmetics (TRASCE) Consortium to improve supply chain mapping.
- 98% of electricity sources from renewable sources.
- Partnership with Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership to build skills, knowledge, innovative solutions and sustainability leadership.

Sustainability Strategy: House Sustainability Ambition
- Restoring Nature and Climate- Role modelling regenerative practices and the just transition to net-zero
- Investing in Circularity- Maximising the durability and lifecycles of products and materials and build circular systems.
- Advancing Dignity and Opportunity- Everyone across the business and supply chain being treated with dignity and respect and having the opportunity to thrive.
- Promoting the Autonomy of Women- Supporting the self-determination of women, advancing the positive impact that gender equality brings to the world.
