Curated: In Case You Missed It
Intro
This is issue 03 of my newsletter. In all honesty, it almost didn't happen, but because I publicly committed to publishing it, I feel a sense of accountability, especially as more people sign up. It's too early to do a U-turn on this commitment, so from that perspective, building in public is a motivator for me. I don't have a lengthy preamble this week. At the last minute, I decided to ditch the write-up I was working on, as I needed more time to write it without feeling rushed. Instead, I've substituted it with something I believe will be worth your while.
Recruitment
Chanel are hiring: Sustainability Senior Manager
Chanel is accelerating its sustainable development efforts.
They already have teams in various roles and across geographies so this expansion is a positive sign. The company's sustainability leadership includes a Chief Sustainability Officer- Kate Wylie , Sustainability Director- Guy Morgan and Head of Sustainability- Laura McGonigal .
To be considered for this role, you'll need to have proven working experience Sustainability topics, from retail, real estate, supply chain, or consulting industry.
What's interesting is a lot of the skills they are seeking are common in different roles at that level but diverse experience in sustainability is valued over qualifications. If this is the type of role you are interested in for future, gaining experience in your current organisation would be an appropriate strategy.
Many mid-career professionals I come across that are transitioning into sustainability roles have taken the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) courses.
Pandora
Prior to reading the Deloitte Global Powers of Luxury Goods report I wouldn't have considered Pandora a luxury brand. However, the report ranked them 23rd out of 100 luxury companies.
Pandora already also have senior appointments in Sustainability roles; Vice President, Global Sustainability- Marissa Saretsky , SVP Global Communications & Sustainability- Mads Twomey-Madsen and more. They are looking for 2 Sustainability Directors.
Pandora's ambition is to lead the jewellery industry on sustainability, and become a low-carbon, circular, and inclusive, diverse and fair business.
Director, Global Sustainability: having over a decade of relevant experience working in or with the private sector on sustainability (in-house or via business engagement or management consulting), including leadership experience will be an advantage.
Director, Sustainability Compliance: similarly your decade plus of experience working in or with the private sector on regulatory affairs, sustainability, ethics, and compliance (in-house or management consulting), preferably from highly regulated industries.
Thorough knowledge of key sustainability regulations (EU CSRD, CSDDD, EPR and packaging regulations, modern slavery requirements, etc.).
Events
British Council Event: Institute for Positive Fashion Forum 2024
If you haven't checked out the British Fashion Council's Institute for Positive Fashion Forum, run don't walk. The platform is particularly useful for those interested in the vision of multi-stakeholder roles in a circular economy
They are hosting their 4th Institute for Positive Fashion Forum Event on 18th April. The speaker line up looks diverse and promising as does the content.
When the event started in 2021 according to the Evening Standard, 'tickets for the event cost £150 and were open to the public to purchase'.
Cost: The current ticket pricing information seems to have been removed from the website, making it difficult to confirm the exact costs.
This quote from last year gives an indication: 'As a patron, you are entitled to a £1,000 discount on business packages and £250 off Individual Tickets.'.
Walpole: British Luxury Summit
Walpole have distingiushed themselves as the membership organisation for British Luxury Companies. The event will take place on 29th April.
Their Summit this year explores: Where's next for luxury? I couldn't work out what is in store for that but they have a 40 page report detailing last year's event.
Cost: In person tickets for Non-members are £928+VAT & fees; Non-member digital are £250 + VAT & fees.
BCG: Women@BCG Engage Series: ESG Innovation In Fashion And Infrastructure
Boston Consulting Group (BCG) are hosting this as part of their Women at BCG Engage Series. What piqued my interest was Jocelyn Wilkinson is going to be sharing 35 new and upcoming ESG-related regulations are driving significant change in the fashion industry right now.
This event will take place online on the 23rd April.
Cost: Free
I mentioned the costs for a few reasons but perhaps in some future post I will discuss the 'S' in ESG.
Reports
Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030: Stakeholder Report
The Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 was founded by Cartier and Kering to accelerate positive impact in three areas: building climate resilience, preserving resources, and fostering inclusiveness. The 90 page report covers the progress that the organisation and its members have made in the last 12 months. I haven't read this report yet, but I believe it will be a valuable resource for the Sustainable Luxury Insight Report I'm creating for the luxury watch industry.
BCG: The Next 50 Years of Work
Boston Consulting Group (BCG) recently published a report titled "The Next 50 Years of Work," which highlights four key boundaries that will frame the future: the Planetary Boundary, Technology Boundary, Social Foundation, and Sociocognitive Boundary. These boundaries are critical to policies, strategies, and job creation. I consider both the Planetary Boundary and Social Foundation to be within the scope of sustainability, and I believe it's worth devoting time to understanding how to position yourself in the expected paradigm shifts.
Technology
RedBoxMe in Collaboration with Cartier: Social Ideas Platform
RedBoxMe in Collaboration with Cartier according to the Cartier CEO is a place for thinkers, scientists, and innovators of all kinds to come together and engage in meaningful conversations. Unfortunately, this platform is not open to the public yet and is invite only, but interested individuals can join the waiting list.
Technically speaking curating a newsletter should be easier, but I've realised that it's equally challenging due to the requirement of qualifying the curated content. However, if you never put your work out there, you'll never have the opportunity to improve.
Let me know if you found this useful and what was of particular interest. I might do one each month as it's a useful way to keep my finger on the pulse.
